The Missouri Campus Communities that Care website is part of the effort guided by Missouri’s Strategy for Suicide Prevention (MSSP), which is the action plan for the state’s response to viewing suicide as a public health problem. This website is a work in progress and serves as a gateway for suicide prevention efforts in the Missouri’s public higher education community. This website has information that all members of a campus community can benefit from. Students can learn about the scope of the problem of suicide, warning signs of suicide, and to help a friend. College administrators (This includes faculty and staff.) can learn about basics of suicide prevention, implementing sound mental health policies, and training opportunities for suicide intervention skills. There are also tools that both students and college administrators can use to implement mental health awareness campaigns on their campus to fight against mental health stigma and college student suicide. We welcome your questions and comments – because suicide prevention works involves the entire campus community – so please share your thoughts. By viewing this website, you’re taking the first step to learn about suicide prevention. We wish you all the best of luck as you begin a mental health campaign for your campus.

The opportunity for this website was made possible by the Missouri Department of Mental Health’s Youth Suicide Prevention Project and the University of Missouri – Columbia’s Wellness Resource/Partners in Prevention, which are funded through grant numbers SM57376 and SAMHSA.
